Late 2009 saw the publication by ETSI of the new Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) standard for second generation digital terrestrial television broadcasting - DVB-T2. One of the most advanced systems of its kind, it uses sophisticated modulation and coding techniques to deliver audio, video and data services to fixed, portable and mobile devices. It uses OFDM with a large number of sub-carriers, in conjunction with powerful LDPC/BCH error correction, to deliver a robust signal even under high levels of interference and in difficult channels.

Apart from television broadcast, this standard offers significant benefits for other data transmission applications where robustness and resistance to fading is paramount.
